I just found an old book on cosmetology today that has the most excellent (and thorough) instructions, with full illustrations, of finger waves...
I will be scanning the pages and putting up a pdf file in the next week... may get some photos up today... pretty excellent...

I have an old book on marcel waving with an iron...would you be interested in some scans of it? :) I don't have anywhere to post them, but I would like to make them available to anyone who wants to see.. :) -

Re: Finger Waves
Mon, October 10, 2005 - 8:14 PMCool! You can do whatever you want with them. I am SOOPER busy til November, so I won't get to do it til Nov or Dec most likely but I will as soon as I get a chance. the book is from the early 20's, I believe. It's really good! I also have some other good vintage fashion material...I'll dig it up and scan it too. I would be thrilled to share it! :) -

Re: Finger Waves
Mon, January 21, 2008 - 6:27 PMJust a little FYI...Fingerwaves do work best on hair that is shoulder length or above and layered. A natural bend in the hair helps as well. Also, waving clips (they look like metal stubby butterfly clips) help hold the wave ridge once you've combed the wave in place. Best of luck! ;) -

Re: Finger Waves
Tue, January 22, 2008 - 8:45 AMI've gotten great results with a 3-barrel marcel waver. It takes practice, but it gives you the look of finger waves, and I found it a lot easier than finger waving my own hair.
